The 3rd All Vietnam Koi Show 2025, hosted by the Ho Chi Minh Koi Club, was held over two days on 21 and 22 June at the Thanh Nien Cultural House in Ho Chi Minh City.
Eleven judges invited from Japan, Malaysia, and the Philippines oversaw the judging, with the proceedings broadcast live on a large screen set up on stage, creating an immersive and lively atmosphere throughout the venue.
Among the 504 koi entered in the show, four were shortlisted as contenders for the Grand Champion title and in the final vote between a Kohaku and a Showa Sanshoku, the Showa Sanshoku exhibited by Nguyen Duc Quang claimed a decisive victory with 10 votes.
It was acquired through Tani Co., Ltd. and Brian of BN-Koi at an auction held by Dainichi Koi Farm Co., Ltd. and was exhibited at the age of six, measuring 89 cm. He reclaimed the Grand Champion title after a one-show interval, while a koi bred by Dainichi was selected for the top honour for the third consecutive show.
After the first day, a celebration party was held where judges, event officials, and hobbyists mingled and socialised. The proceeds from the charity auction were donated to the club’s fund to promote koi culture.
The second day began with an opening performance, followed by the awards ceremony. Quang expressed his hope that the show will continue to grow in the future and expand throughout Southeast Asia and other Asian countries.
Additionally, the representative of the host, Ho Chi Minh Koi Club, stated, “This event showcases the development of koi breeding techniques and knowledge in Vietnam and has provided an opportunity to share the growth of koi culture with people around the world.”
In Vietnam, where koi hobbyists tend to be relatively young, this koi show reflected the emergence of a new generation of hobbyists and the industry’s growth. (Award-winning Koi will be featured in a future report.)
