From over 50 Years of the history at the All Japan Combined Nishikigoi Show
Legendary Koi worth passing down to future generations : A-Ginrin・B-Ginrin Edition
By Noriaki Kojima (Chanobi)
The Combined Nishikigoi Show, organised by the All Japan Nishikigoi Promotion Association, has been held for over 50 years. Throughout its long history, countless beautiful Nishikigoi have left lasting impressions on many and touched the hearts of enthusiasts—a fact that hardly needs stating.
Among those countless beautiful Nishikigoi, some stand out with such exceptional beauty that, even today, they remain vividly etched in the minds of those who saw them. These are the actual “exceptional koi” — legendary koi worthy of the name. In this series, we will feature these iconic representatives of their respective eras, shining on the grand stage of the koi show, introduced by variety.

With its large, thick body, powerful hi pattern, and dazzlingly radiant ginrin, this koi fulfilled the dream of an era that sought both strength and quality in the ginrin variety. It became a renowned representative of the Ginrin Kohaku.
Also known as “Kato Ginrin,” named after its owner. From the late 1980s to the early 1990s, the koi was active in the national shows organised by Zen Nihon Airinka and All Japan Nishikigoi Promotion Association, frequently winning top awards.

In 1999, at the 39th Niigata Agricultural Festival, this koi made history as the only Ginrin Showa to win the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award.
To develop koi that were large and beautiful, Atsushi Suda crossed a butterfly koi of distant lineage with an Echigo (Niigata) Nishikigoi. From this breeding came a female Hi Utsuri, which was bred with a male Showa Sanshoku by Susumu Shinoda. The slight ginrin that appeared on the female Hi Utsuri proved to be dominant, giving rise to this magnificent Ginrin Showa with an outstanding frame and striking beauty. The ginrin shimmering across its impressive body can only be described as dazzling.
