Koi Hobbyist Visit 2025 Daisuke Igari (Fukushima)

“I want to run a koi farm in this location”

Actively utilizing YouTube to make it a reality

Mr. Igari is a known presence at koi shows in the Tohoku-Hokkaido region. While sharing his breeding environment on his YouTube channel ” Koi Holiday “, he also assists with the intake and return of koi from Fujita Fish Farm, also in Fukushima Prefecture, at shows. It didn’t take long for him to envision making a living from the Nishikigoi he started keeping out of pure interest. He currently has frame pools and a vinyl greenhouse housing a sheet pond constructed with pipes and plywood in his home garden. He introduces koi from Fujita Fish Farm and other renowned breeders online. His active use of YouTube is garnering support not only from beginners but also from discerning enthusiasts, as can be sensed from his conversations with veterans at show venues.
Although he still works outside of the koi industry, he is steadily pursuing his dream of “starting a koi farm in Iwaki City,” with plans to join the relevant promotion association in sight.

Building vinyl greenhouses for stable livestock farming

After finishing the interview with Mr. Tetsuya Koyano (Ibaraki) featured in the October issue around noon, we headed to Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture. It was late July, with long daylight hours, so we calculated that arriving at 15:00 after a roughly two-hour journey would allow sufficient time for the interview.
“Please tell him I want the second-to-last koi that was on YouTube.”
This message was entrusted to the reporter by Mr. Sekine, who built Mr. Koyano’s pond and attended the morning interview. The reporter had heard enthusiasts discussing ” Koi Holiday ” at the Tohoku-Hokkaido regional koi show, and thus knew Mr. Igari’s recognition was growing in the Tohoku area. Nevertheless, the fact that Mr. Sekine, a veteran with a proven track record at shows, was also familiar with ” Koi Holiday ” (Mr. Igari) was a slight surprise. It is a testament to the quality of the koi he handles.
