New event at Koizumi Koi Farm in Tokyo
‘Dainichi Tosai Cup Koi Show’ held

Koizumi Koi Farm, located in Kokubunji City, Tokyo, offers a wide range of koi — from reasonably priced fish to top-quality koi from renowned breeders across Japan. The farm regularly hosts events and sales every month.

On 25 May, it held the first-ever “Dainichi Tosai Cup” koi show. This event featured a competition among Tosai koi (Taisho Sanshoku, Showa Sanshoku, Shiro Utsuri, and Bekko) bred by Dainichi Koi Farm Co., Ltd. and sold at a February sales event. After the sale, the koi were carefully raised for about three months in Koizumi Koi Farm’s indoor ponds.

On the day of the show, Taro Kataoka of Oya Koi Farm in Niigata was invited as the judge. From the 86 entries, he selected winners in each size category (S, M, and L), and then chose the overall Grand Champion.

Grand Champion (20cm→29cm)
Noriaki Watanabe

In a very close contest, the Grand Champion title went to Noriaki Watanabe’s Showa Sanshoku. With its powerful Sumi, it had grown by 9 cm since the February sale and earned the honor of becoming the first-ever Dainichi Tosai Cup champion. Although Mr. Watanabe was not present at the event, he was later awarded a 100,000-yen coupon for use at Koizumi Koi Farm, along with other luxurious prizes such as premium koi feed.

Second place went to Yasuhiro Yamauchi, and third place to Kazuyuki Iwamoto. Both of their koi also showed significant growth of nearly 10 cm.

To further engage participants, a fun contest was held to predict the Grand Champion among the 86 entries. Three attendees correctly guessed the winner and received prizes.

Although this was the very first edition of the event, even seasoned enthusiasts and judge Mr. Kataoka were surprised by how much the koi had grown and transformed in just three months.

Many customers are drawn to Koizumi Koi Farm not only because of the excellent selection of koi — made possible by Mr. Koizumi’s connections as a former Dainichi Koi Farm employee — but also due to his warm personality and deep knowledge.
