The 17th Taagari Koi Show Held
Nishikigoi Niigata Direct Wins Championship After Three Years
303 Fresh Tosai Exhibited

The Taagari Koi Show, signaling the autumn harvest, was held on September 6th, at the small arena of Yamakoshi Gymnasium next to the Yamakoshi Branch Office. Many enthusiasts and dealers from inside and outside the prefecture gathered to observe the quality of this year’s tosai.
As an event organized by the Nagaoka City Nishikigoi Breeders Association Youth Division, preceding the autumn show season, its purpose is to improve the quality and promote Nishikigoi produced in Nagaoka City, and to boost producers’ motivation by providing a platform for information exchange.
Before the judging began at 1:30 PM, bagged tosai were continuously brought into the venue. The total number reached 303, surpassing 300 for the first time in several years, indicating the producers’ enthusiasm.
The judging was conducted by seven judges, including one chief judge. As a result of the overall championship selection, a Showa Sanshoku entered by Nishikigoi Niigata Direct was chosen as the first-place winner, marking their return to victory after three years. At 26 cm in length, this fish boasted an incredible physique for a tosai, characterized by thick red pattern and deep sumi patterns, clearly showing that it had been carefully raised.
The second-place winner was a Taisho Sanshoku entered by Tanoue Koi Farm, and the third-place winner was a Kohaku entered by Mr. Kazuo Hoshino. Each showcased charming tosai, marking the official start of this year’s autumn koi show season.
