The bustling Yokohama Nishikigoi Matsue Exhibition Executive Director Iitsuka Hosts a Small Seminar at the Store
The collaborative koi promotion event with industry partners is in full swing at Yokohama Nishikigoi (represented by Ogiku Takuro). At the Matsue-themed event held on February 11, Matsue Nishikigoi Center Executive Director Iitsuka Hiroaki and employee Takami Kazunari made a special trip to the store to lend their support.

The koi on display featured a diverse selection: exclusive high-quality specimens specially procured by Matsue Nishikigoi Center for the event, affordable tosai, and 3- to 5-year-old koi cultivated in Yokohama Nishikigoi’s Niigata pond. Even seasoned enthusiasts of the store found it hard to resist these premium selections. However, Mr. Iitsuka’s detailed explanations not only allowed guests to feast their eyes but also imparted key techniques for tategoi, earning widespread acclaim.
Currently, most of the Kohaku handled by Yokohama Nishikigoi as products are from Matsue. “Matsue’s Kohaku are really fascinating,” says Ogiku. The shop’s well-stocked inventory truly embodies his words, and with the rare opportunity to speak directly with the producer personally recommended by the owner, the store was especially bustling with enthusiasts that day—so much so that the attached parking lot was completely full.
Additionally, as a special event, a mini-study session on Matsue Kohaku was held with Iitsuka as the instructor, making it undoubtedly a highly satisfying day for visitors.

According to Iitsuka, this year’s production plans include introducing three to four new parent koi. “We’re gradually building the foundation for the next generation,” he says. As expectations grow for the breeding of exceptional koi, all eyes are also on the next collaborative event by these two “overly passionate koi maniacs”—Ogiku and Iitsuka.
