Three young innovators take on new product development from Mushigame, Yamakoshi.
Ikarashi Products, located in Mushigame, Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, was founded by Shun Ikarashi, whose passion for craftsmanship led him to start the company together with his former classmates, Koki Nishihara and Toa Saito. The trio runs a business focused on laser processing metal and developing original products. One standout product is their aluminium Nishikigoi measuring device, which has been steadily gaining traction among professionals throughout Niigata Prefecture. As interest continues to grow, Sales Manager Koki Nishihara—who oversees sales and manufacturing—shared insights into the company’s approach to craftsmanship.
— At the 12th International Junior Koi Show held in April, you had a booth showcasing your original measuring devices and feeder holders. Could you tell us more about what kind of company Ikarashi Products is?
Koki: Our founder, Shun Ikarashi, has always been passionate about craftsmanship. For about seven years, he had been designing, manufacturing, and selling products independently—almost as a hobby. When the business started to grow, Shun invited us to join, and in December two years ago, the three of us officially launched the company as Ikarashi Products.
— So, are the three of you currently managing the company?
Koki:That’s right. All three of us are childhood friends from Yamakoshi. The building we used for the company was a shop called “Kobayashiya,” which was run by Shun’s grandfather. We now use that space as both our office and workshop.
