I.K.E. Achieves Two Consecutive Victories with Isa Showa
Tani Koi Farm 11th Raising Contest
The judging session for the “11th Raising Contest” was held on September 28th, approximately four and a half months after the sale held on May 5th, at Tani Koi Farm in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture. Mitsunori Isa (Isa Koi Farm) and Masayuki Sekiguchi (Sekiguchi Koi Farm) were invited to serve as judges.
This event, which began in 2015, pits two representative Showa brands from Niigata against each other and has grown into a popular signature event for the farm. It now attracts numerous hobbyist and professionals from overseas, as well as from within Japan.
On this day, the 158 koi that had been raised in the farm’s house ponds during the summer were revealed to the participants, eliciting many exclamations of surprise at their transformation.
Mr. Isa and Mr. Sekiguchi carefully deliberated before selecting the winners for each prize. The Grand Champion was awarded to the Isa Showa from I.K.E marking the company’s second consecutive victory in the contest.
The Isawa Showa is characterized by its large, modern-style Shiroji extending significantly over the shoulders. It is notably larger than other Showa varieties and its excellent physique is highly praised.
The overall record between Iza Showa and Sekiguchi Showa currently stands at 4 to 7 in favor of Sekiguchi Showa. However, with Iza Showa winning the last two consecutive contests, it is closing the gap rapidly. It will be exciting to see which Showa brand prevails in next year’s competition.
