The 62nd Hiroshima Nishikigoi Show

November 3, 2025
Venue: Kure Portopia Park

Although the “special sunny day” seems to be shifting slightly due to recent climate change, fine weather prevailed once again at the venue, Kure Portopia Park, this year. Many families visited starting in the morning, and this Nishikigoi festival, which is part of the Agricultural, Forestry, and Fisheries Festival, was a feast for the eyes of the general public.
In the first round of judging for the Grand Champion, two candidate koi were selected from each of the three classes from among the 749 exhibited koi. Interestingly, all three classes unanimously nominated a Kohaku and a Sanshoku. The Kohaku impressed with its substantial yet graceful body shape, beautiful base color, and a varied, striking three-step pattern. On the other hand, the Sanshoku was praised for its powerful skeletal structure, three-step red pattern, and the well-placed sumi (black markings) that enhanced its majestic appearance.
As a result of voting by the 10 judges, with a result of 6 to 3, the Kohaku from the over 80bu was awarded the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Prize, while the Sanshoku from the same over 80bu received the Fisheries Agency Director-General Prize. Sakai Fish Farm. successfully renewed its consecutive championship record. The winning Kohaku is 6 years old, measures 93 cm, and its parent is “Simple Love.”
