Mr. Campos Secures Third Major Title

The 2nd World Nishikigoi Show 2025, organized by the World Nishikigoi Club, was held over three days from November 21st to 23rd at the Mihara City Performing Arts Center “Popolo” in Hiroshima Prefecture.
A total of 1,118 koi from 18 countries and regions were exhibited. The judging panel consisted of 40 members: 18 from the Promotion Association, 8 from the ZNA, 12 overseas dealers, and 2 hobbyists, forming eight teams of five members each. The chief judge was Mr. Asada Yasuhiko, President of the ZNA.
The selection process began with bag judging, followed by the selection of the Grand Champion. In the first round of voting, 10 koi received votes, but Entry No. 1625, an 85 Bu Kohaku, emerged victorious with 21 votes to become the 2nd World Nishikigoi Show Grand Champion.
The winning Kohaku was entered by Benedict Campos (Philippines), a regular at major koi shows. Bred by Isa Koi Farm, the 6-year-old, 84 cm koi previously won the 75 Bu Grand Champion title at the 63rd Niigata Nishikigoi Show (2023). Mr. Campos acquired the koi through Narita Koi Farms and Tategoi House (Philippines). This specimen has an impressive track record, having won the Diamond Award at the inaugural World Nishikigoi Show and the Superior Koi Grand Champion title (5 years old, 80 cm) at last year’s 55th All Japan Combined Nishikigoi Show. With this victory, Mr. Campos has now secured his third major title, adding to his previous wins at the Young Koi Show and the Junior Koi Show.
The voting for the Reserve Grand Champion (2nd place) saw koi number 1744 receive 17 votes and number 1063 receive 12 votes. In the runoff vote between these two, koi number 1744, a Kohaku entered by Mr. Yuan Jiandong (China), prevailed 25 votes to 15. This koi was bred by Dainichi Koi Farm. and acquired through Sanshin Trading (Tokyo) and Suxin Nishikigoi (China).

The Kohaku numbered 1063, which narrowly lost, was awarded 3rd place Grand Champion. This koi was entered by Mr. Pan Zhicheng (China), bred by Sakai Fish Farm and acquired through Kinsho (Niigata) and Daheyan Nishikigoi (China). It was exhibited as a 5-year-old, 85 cm koi.
The Grand Champion B was contested between No. 1631 (Tancho Kohaku) and No. 1899 (Tancho Kujaku). After receiving 15 votes in the first round, the Tancho Kohaku won the final runoff 23 to 17.
Exhibited by Mr. Tesar Gusmawan (Indonesia) and bred by Dainichi Koi Farm, it was acquired through KOI-UMEDA JAPAN (Hiroshima) and Japan Direct Koi Center (Indonesia) during Narita Koi Farm’s “Collection 2024” event. It is 4 years old and 84 cm.
On the 22nd, the show opened to the general public, and the WNC Live Auction commenced at 11:00 AM. Approximately 100 fish from 37 members were put up for auction, leading to spirited bidding among participating dealers.
A social party was held from 7:00 PM, attended by Mihara City Mayor Mr. Okada Yoshihiro, Mihara Cultural Arts Foundation Chairman Mr. Kikawa Makoto, Mihara Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mr. Morimitsu Takamasa, among others. The venue was energized by a performance of the Mihara Yassa Dance by the Mihara Yassa Dance Promotion Council. After the event closed, many people headed out into the streets of Mihara to enjoy a long night of celebration.
The final day, the 23rd, featured public viewing and the award ceremony. In celebration of the Grand Champion victory, Mr. Kristoffer Lao of the agent Tategoi House and Mr. Mitsunori Isa of the breeder Isa Koi Farm were tossed into the air by the crowd, bringing the successful second edition of the show to a triumphant close.
