Sweep Top Prizes After Winning a Fierce Competition Featuring 507 Koi

On June 13 and 14, the “All Vietnam Koi Show 2026”—one of Vietnam’s largest Nishikigoi shows, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Koi Club—was held in grand style at the 7th Military Region Indoor Stadium, bringing together enthusiasts and industry professionals from across Vietnam.

A total of 12 judges were invited, including Futoshi Manno, Chairman of the All Japan Nishikigoi Promotion Association, as well as judges from Malaysia and China. The judges gathered at the venue at 9:30 a.m. on the first day and, after a brief briefing, immediately proceeded to the individual tanks. To ensure transparency and fairness, the voting and ballot counting were broadcast live on a large screen on stage.

Each judge selected three fish from a total of 507 entries. After the first round of voting on the nine selected fish, four advanced to the second round. In the final round, which came down to two contenders, the prestigious Grand Champion title was awarded to the 85bu Kohaku entered by Mr. Herbert Fritch and Predatory Fins (USA).

The Kohaku, which received an overwhelming 10 votes, was a 6-year-old, 84 cm specimen bred by Dainichi Koi Farm Co., Ltd., Toyota Branch (Aichi). It was acquired through Redwood Koi Farm (USA) and handled by Brian BN-Koi (Ho Chi Minh City).

That evening, following the intense competition, the venue shifted to the Adora Center for a celebratory party. In his opening remarks, Mr. Brian Nguyen (Brian BN-Koi) took the stage on behalf of the tournament organizers and expressed his deep gratitude to the judges, sponsors, enthusiasts, and the staff who supported the event behind the scenes. In his subsequent remarks, Mr. Futoshi Mano, representing the judges, delivered a powerful message expressing his desire to continue providing further support to Vietnam in the future.

The highlight of the party that most electrified the venue was a charity auction of a Nishikigoi-themed art piece, held to raise funds for the Ho Chi Minh Nishikigoi Club’s promotional activities. The masterpiece was created by club member Mr. Huynh Thuan, who spent 60 days using 400,000 rhinestones to craft a piece inspired by Nishikigoi from Sakai Fish Farm Co., Ltd. The starting price of approximately 60,000 yen rose rapidly, and after a head-to-head bidding battle between Mr. Hung Hai Phong and Mr. Kentaro Sakai, Mr. Hung won the auction for approximately 2.2 million yen, bringing the event to a resounding close.
