Isa and Sekiguchi’s ‘Showa Showdown’
The 11th Keeping Contest Sales Event Held at Tani Fish Farm
The Showa Showdown! Isa vs Sekiguchi Keeping Contest sales event, held annually by Tani Fish Farm (Narita City, Chiba Prefecture), took place on 5 May, attracting many enthusiasts and dealers from inside and outside Chiba Prefecture.
The new indoor pond, which was bustling with visitors during Golden Week, served as the venue for the exhibition of 158 Showa Sanshoku koi from the Isa and Sekiguchi Koi Farms. Participants listened to a lecture on Showa Sanshoku koi by Mr. Mitsunori Isa and Mr. Masayuki Sekiguchi, who were both present on the day, and carefully examined the koi. When there were multiple buyers for the same koi, the staff held a lottery to determine the purchaser.
These Koi will be carefully raised in concrete ponds at the Tani Fish Farm for about six months, and then judged by Mr. Isa and Mr. Sekiguchi in the autumn of this year. The winner will receive 500,000 yen, the runner-up 300,000 yen, and the third-place winner 200,000 yen, and the top winners will also receive feed and other prizes. The overall results so far are three wins for Mr. Isa and seven wins for Mr. Sekiguchi.
