The 21st Toyama Prefecture Young Koi Show
10 May 2026
Venue: Plaza in front of ‘Minna no Minato’ at Uozu General Park (Uozu City, Toyama Prefecture)
Under clear skies reminiscent of early summer, the 21st Toyama Prefecture Young Koi Show was held in the forecourt of the ‘Minna no Minato’ free rest area at Uozu General Park (Uozu City, Toyama Prefecture). Two judges were invited from Niigata: Daisuke Ishihara (Yagenji Koi Farm) and Rene Villela (JKX Co., Ltd).
Following a rigorous judging process, the Grand Champion was selected from a total of 150 entries: a 42bu Kohaku, aged two years and measuring 42 cm, entered by Mr Shintaro Terahata. Bred by Nagoshi Koi Farm (Asahi-machi), the fish was acquired at last year’s Golden Week sale and entrusted to the farm for rearing.
Other top prize winners were: Young champion – 39bu Taisho Sanshoku – Shizuo Akae; Junior champion – 30bu Kohaku – Yutaka Asaji; Mini champion – 21bu Taisho Sanshoku – Shuji Yasui; Prefectural Fish Award: 42bu, Asagi – Hisao Hirose; Tateyama Grand Prize: 39bu, Kinginrin – Tokimori Igarashi; and Special Award: 30bu, Koromo – Hisao Hirose.
Although the schedule was tight, with the event taking place over just one day, the venue was enveloped in a convivial atmosphere from start to finish, and the event drew to a close on a high note.
