The 2nd Ogata Cup Koi Show Held
354 Diverse Koi Compete
On Friday, October 31, the “2nd Ogata Cup Koi Show” was held at Ogata Koi Farm in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The venue was filled with excitement as dealers from both Japan and abroad gathered.
This event, which started last year, is open to two-year-old and three-year-old koi that have been purchased and kept at the farm. They compete across seven size categories, ranging from 45 bu to over 70 bu, and 14 varieties.
The number of entries significantly exceeded the previous competition, with 354 koi gathered. A wide range of varieties were present, a characteristic of the farm which handles many types including the Gosanke, Hikari-mono, Kawarigoi, and Muji-mono.
All dealers who handled the exhibited koi participated as judges. Approximately 30 people from both Japan and overseas conducted the judging. Grand Champion A selected from the Gosanke was awarded to a Showa Sanshoku exhibited by Tatsu Koi Bonsai (Germany). Grand Champion B selected from non-Gosanke varieties was awarded to a Shiro Utsuri exhibited by Horikawaya (Nagasaki).
An awards ceremony and welcome party were held in the evening, and the winners were presented with vouchers that can be used at the farm’s auction.
The prize-winning koi from the 2nd Ogata Cup Koi Show are scheduled to be featured in the January issue.
