The 17th Hiroshima Young Koi Show

April 12, 2026
Venue: Kure Portopia Park (Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture)

Kure Portopia Park overlooks the Seto Inland Sea. Because it faces the sea, strong winds occasionally blow, but the skies were clear from the morning, making it a perfect day for the koi show.
Judging began at 10:30 a.m. With Kenji Mori, Kansai Region Branch Head (Matogata Kanyuen), serving as Head Judge, six judges — Hironori Ueno (Ueno Koi Farm), Masami Kinjo (Kintaro Nishikigoi), Shigeyoshi Tsujikawa (Senshu Nishikigoi), Koichiro Taki (Taki Nishikigoi), and Shuki Narita (Narita Koi Farm) — first selected three finalists for the Grand Champion. After judging the General Division, the selection for the Grand Champion finally took place.
As a result of the judges’ votes, a 65 bu Kohaku entered by Shunji Tanaka was awarded Grand Champion. The koi was produced by Sakai purchased from the Nishikigoi specialty store Shotoku, and won the 65 bu Miyabi Prize at this year’s All Japan Nishikigoi Show. At this show, it was entered as a 3-year-old measuring 65cm, handled by Oishi Koi Farm.
The 2nd place Overall Grand Champion was Hironori Masaiwa’s 65 bu Showa Sanshoku (bred by Dainichi Koi Farm and handled by KOI-UMEDA JAPAN), and 3rd place was Kazuhiko Odawara’s 65 bu Showa Sanshoku (bred and handled by Omosako Koi Farm).
Other top prizes were: Mature Koi Champion / 65 bu Showa Sanshoku / Masafumi Amioka; Adult Koi Champion / 50 bu Showa Sanshoku / Fumio Murakami; Young Koi Champion / 30-bu Showa Sanshoku / Kazuhito Katayama; Junior Koi Champion / 12 bu Doitsugoi / Kotaro Wakamiya; and the Carp Prize / 60 bu Tancho / Koji Nishimura.
