The Kansai Regional Junior Koi Show is held annually on the final day of the Golden Week. This year marked its 5th anniversary at the venue of Shinwa Shoji Co., Ltd. in Miki City, Hyogo Prefecture. Blessed with beautiful weather, hobbyists from all over the Kansai region gathered, filling the venue with great excitement.
The decision to change the upper size limit for entries to 50 bu starting from this show proved successful, drawing 302 entries, an increase of approximately 50 koi from the previous show. Following the judging by Mr. Hirokazu Oyama (Oyama Fish Farm) and Mr. Motoharu Sakai (Sakai), a 50 bu Kohaku exhibited by Ms. Kumiko Kangyo was awarded the Grand Champion title. Bred by Nagomi Koi Farm as a two-year-old measuring 50 cm, koi bred by the same farm also dominated the top spots in other categories, including the Mini, Junior, and Young Koi divisions.
Additionally, the Satsuki Grand Prize, which is awarded to the best outside the Gosanke, went to a 50 bu Kujaku exhibited by Mr. Toshiyuki Sakamoto and bred by Omosako Koi Farm. After acquiring it as a two-year-old through Gyosui (Osaka), its rearing was entrusted to Omosako Koi Farm and it was entered in this show as a three-year-old measuring 50 cm.
Amid the tight schedule of a single-day event, “Sobameshi” was served in a corner of the venue, allowing hobbyists to fully enjoy the final day of the consecutive holidays.
